Below are some top tips from the INSTITUTE OF PLUMBING & HEATING ENGINEERING (IPHE)
It is good working practice to:
- Always return calls
- If you are going to be late for a job always contact the customer
- Get the customer to put in writing exactly what they want you to do
- Fully explain the work you are going to carry out
- Make sure you are up-to-date with Water/Building Regulations
- Be patient with elderly customers
- Make sure you have adequate liability insurance
- If you have installed an appliance with controls, always explain to the customer how to use it and leave them with all of the product’s literature.
- Do not install any appliance, fixture or fitting provided by a customer without first ensuring its suitability to their needs, compatibility with their plumbing system and its compliance with relevant British Standards and Regulations
- Maintain a smart, professional appearance
- Always ensure that you have identification available as proof of your competency in the required areas of your profession.
- Always leave the premises clean and tidy
